The Ring Always Home Cam is a compact indoor security drone that docks in a charging station when not in use and flies a pre-mapped path through your home when triggered — either manually via the Ring app or automatically in response to a Ring Alarm event. Unlike fixed cameras, it can move to any mapped room or corridor, eliminating the blind spots that stationary cameras always leave. When docked, the camera is physically obstructed by the base so it cannot record anything. In flight it streams live HD video via the Ring app and records footage that can be saved with a Ring Protect subscription.
The Always Home Cam is particularly practical for multi-floor homes where stairs would stop any wheeled robot. Because it flies, it can be stationed on any floor — one unit and dock per floor — and reach every mapped room on that level autonomously. For a three-storey house, three units provides complete indoor drone coverage of all floors. At US$249.99 per unit it is a one-time hardware purchase; Ring Protect cloud storage is an optional add-on subscription for video history, though live viewing works without it.
The drone is deliberately non-interventionist. It has no speakers, no siren, no two-way audio, and no physical capabilities beyond flying and recording. Its value is surveillance and deterrence by presence. It is quiet enough to navigate your home but loud enough that anyone inside will know it is flying — which Ring suggests is itself a deterrent. The camera cannot see anything when the unit is sitting in its dock, a design choice Ring made specifically to address privacy concerns about a camera that can reach any room in the house.
